Internet of objects ?

The emergence of the internet

Since its arrival with the general public at the end of the 1990s, the Internet was an end in itself.

People went on the Internet to look for informations and, in the best cases, printed it out. Sometimes we interacted with other information systems by carrying out administrative procedures or ordering products on online sales websites. Everything happened behind a screen anyway.

En evolution through time

For one or two years now, programmes used on the Internet, and in particular on mobile phones, can be embedded in objects to give them their own intelligent system.

To be embedded, the system must be limited to a few basic functions, but connected to a mobile phone or computer by wifi. These tools become very relevant. They can even combine to create a chain of information and interaction.

This revolution will have a strong impact on user behaviour.

Digital will become even more part of everyday life without there being any separation between the material and immaterial worlds.

The Internet of Things is for example :

  • Medical devices for taking blood pressure or monitoring weight with communication to the computer or laptop.
  • The car makes its own diagnosis and dialogues with a maintenance centre.
  • RFID (radio frequency) chips to obtain contextualized information about an object or a place etc…
