Mudo – Continuum of visits

The Musée de l’Oise or MUDO, located in Beauvais, reopened on the 25th of January after a long period of closure. Part of a very broad project, the MUDO has both a major cultural ambition and is part of a tourist and digital project.

Beauvais is a leading airport hub, grouping together a large proportion of the flights of low-cost for the region of Paris. The town is therefore having an influx of tourists crossing its territory, which the elected representatives wish to capture, in order to make people discover the town and its cultural assets. The project is part of a continuum of visits which should, in the long term, provide to the tourists new tools of discovery that can be used outside the museum.

The museum is also part of a departmental digital plan by promoting the acquisition of digital works and deploying multimedia mediation tools. Mazedia has thus created a multitouch table and the museum’s visioguide programme. A mobile application will soon be available on Apple and Android stores. It can already be used on the museum”s video guides, which are available for the public for free.

The application has two courses : a treasure hunt for children, who are invited to recognise details of the works presented and can earn points during their visit. An adult on a conventional route, accompanying the visit with comments putting the works and their author into their perspective.

The multitouch table essentially includes a programme that places the works in a chronological order, providing additional information to the cartels in the rooms and the narration with the video guide.

Continuum of visits

One of the challenges is to link the visioguide route to the multitouch table. The visitor carries out his visit and reaches, halfway through, the room where the multitouch table is located. As they approach, the mobile guide detects the proximity of the table thanks to an Ibeacon geolocating the smartphone. The mobile’s programme and the one of the table, then exchange informations. The visitor is therefore invited on his smartphone to personalise the content of the table. A colored chip is then assigned to him and art pieces he has already seen are marked to facilitate further exploration.

A support on the Wezit solution

Both applications (mobile and multitouch) are based on the “Wezit” path and content management solution. The exchange of information goes through this tool, which is central to the museum. The use of the TourML by Wezit ensures a unified organisation of information between devices.
